Focus on STEM careers
STEM is a collection of ways to investigate and build, not one narrow type of career.
Start with the decision in front of you
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics appear in health, environment, trades, policy, design and business. Compare how much time roles spend analysing, building, communicating, managing risk or working with people.
Good career research connects general information with your actual circumstances. Location, finances, access to training, health, caring responsibilities and the stage of your working life can change what is practical. Treat advice as a way to improve a decision, not as a rule that removes uncertainty.
A practical way forward
- Start with problems you want to understand.
- Compare university VET and employer pathways.
- Look for roles combining STEM with another interest.
- Try a practical project or competition.
Questions worth answering
- Do I prefer theory fieldwork or making?
- How much teamwork and communication is involved?
- Which pathway keeps options open?
- What mathematics or science foundations matter?
You do not need complete certainty before acting. You need enough evidence to choose the next proportionate step, plus a point at which you will review what you have learned.
